Chiropractic Care is the third largest primary health care profession in the world. It offers a non-invasive, drug-free approach to reversing acute, chronic and degenerative problems plaguing Americans today.
Understanding Chiropractic
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating organism which is controlled by your nervous system. Your nervous system is responsible for the functioning of every cell, tissue and organ in your body. The brain, spinal cord and millions of nerves are all part your nervous system. While the brain is protected by the skull, your spinal cord is protected by 24 movable bones each stacked on top of the other called the spine.
Interference to the nervous system occurs when the bones of the spine (vertebrae) lose their normal position or motion due to everyday bumps, twists, slips, or jars. This misalignment narrows the small openings between vertebrae through which the nerves pass to reach all parts of the body. When misalignment, or subluxation, occurs, the vertebrae press on a nerve, irritate it, and interfere with the transmission of nerve signals to the body. This can result in nervous system dysfunction, pain and ultimately poor health. Chiropractors detect and correct these subluxations, restoring the body’s nerve signals by replacing the bone to its normal position with gentle pressures called adjustments.
Dr. Lacey’s Three-Tiered Treatment Technique
Dr. Lacey uses compassionate chiropractic care and gentle adjustments to treat many conditions that derive from a dysfunctional nervous system. Her treatment methods decrease pain and improve range of motion as well as provide support to the function of internal organs.
Dr. Lacey uses her own proven treatment approach called, the – Alexander Three-Tiered Treatment Technique – often achieving faster and longer lasting results than other single treatment methods.
- Muscle Therapy Technique – When a bone is misaligned, there is inflammation and tightness to the muscles, and area surrounding. Dr. Lacey uses trigger point muscle therapy to relax the muscles, fascial (the connective tissue surrounding the muscle), ligament, tendons and capsule surrounding the bone. Relaxing the muscle and surrounding tissue, allows for an easier chiropractic adjustment and also helps to stabilize the joint and keep the misalignment from reoccurring. Muscle massage also breaks down any scar tissues and adhesions, increasing circulation and lymphatic flow. This helps to push inflammation out of the area and allow good nutrients to flow into the area for faster healing.
- Chiropractic Adjustment/Manipulation – Once the muscle therapy is complete, Dr. Lacey can make adjustments to realign the spine, which restores normal movement between joints, takes pressure off the surrounding nerves and allows the nervous system to communicate with the body entire body. This reduces pain, strengthens your immune system, allows muscles to function normally, and allows effective communication between all tissues in the body.
- Rehabilitation – In order to maintain alignment and keep the good nutrients flowing, Dr. Lacey begins rehabilitation from the very first office visit. Proper strengthening exercises improve stiffness and flexibility of motion, which are key to preventing re-injury and reducing pain. Dr. Lacey demonstrates exercises that patients can do at home and has witnessed a surge in health and improvement when a patient is involved and committed to their own care and recovery.
